Is Testing for International Safety Standards Really Necessary?

Many of our clients ask us if they really need to spend additional funds for testing their bikes and components to see if they meet international safety standards. Many export countries do not actually require to see proof of testing when importing the bicycles, so what gives? Our advice is simple: Test your products often!

Many jurisdictions around the world have product and consumer safety regulations in place to which bike brands distributing internationally should pay attention to. Certain countries may require specific products be independently validated by designated testing centers with homologation protocols, while others might accept self validation through published international standards such as ISO. Some of the most common standards used in the bike industry are CPSC, CPSIA, EN, and GB. Oerus advises all clients to utilize third-party testing services from accredited companies to protect brand integrity and safety. From our experience working with different brands and handling inevitable product liability lawsuits in Europe, USA, and Australia -We can confidently assert that the brands who invest in safety reports are still in business, whereas the brands skipping corners are long gone. Contact Oerus today and we’ll be happy to advise you on which safety standards your brand requires and how to organize testing via our accredited testing agencies.
